nature photography by solstice solstice92@gmail.com
Photography in Greek means drawing with light and this is what I strive to capture with my camera: the light or spirit of nature. I like to frame abstract patterns and encourage people to see the intricate beauty and details of our earth. When I’m in nature it’s easy for me to just BE in the present moment. This awareness and ability to catch those seemingly ordinary images really shine through in my photography. My photos really emanate my passion for nature and my desire to preserve our wild spaces by drawing to your attention the essence of nature.
about the artist
Solstice currently resides on Bainbridge Island. She grew up in the red rock
country of Southern Utah. As a child, the solitude and quiet of the desert
was a welcome companion. With The Grand Canyon and Zion National Park as
her backyard she cultivated a sense of reverence for nature. Being surrounded
by one of the highest concentrations of national parks in the United States
she desired to visit every national park in the country. She has almost
reached that goal. She hasn’t made it to Alaska or Maine yet. She
went on to study Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at Utah
State University and earned her Bachelors in 2005. Her studies imbued in
her a high regard for nature, its intricate cycles and interconnectedness.
How did she come to find herself on the island you may ask? Whenever she
would visit the Northwest, she was absolutely taken with the spirit of
the lush woodlands, the softness of the flora, and the overflowing waterways.
She was saddened every time she had to leave to go back home and so finally
it became possible for her to move
here. The desert in sharp contrast can sometimes be a harsh environment
to live in.
